I hate….Madeline Mccann Hysteria
This blog post is going to upset a lot of people. I’ve been preparing for weeks to write this. I’m ready for the barrage of abuse I’m probably likely to receive by idiots who don’t understand what I’m actually blogging about. On recollection, I really don’t give a fuck. Bring it on.
If you don’t know who Madeline McCann is, I advise you to do a Google search and prepare yourself for the plethora of media information and bullshit your search will return. For those too lazy to use Google, I’ll summarise her identity for you. Madeline (or Maddie as she is referred to) is a little girl who went missing from her parents, whilst on holiday in Portugal. Subsequently she (or at least her photographs), and her parents, have been in the media for the last 6 months whilst national campaigns are seen EVERY-FUCKING-WHERE in a bid to find her or at least locate some information on her status.
800,000 children go missing every year. What the fuck is so special about this one, that she makes prime time news for the next 6 months? Honestly, someone please justify this for me, because I guarantee you that had she been a boy, she/he wouldn’t have made the news at all. Had she been black, asian, or albino, she wouldn’t have made the news either. Is it because she’s a cute little white blonde guy, with big blue eyes? Where is this equally insane TV coverage for the remaining 799,999 children who go missing every year?
Nobody gives a shit about the rest of the kids who go missing. Their parents have to deal with the fact that after probably one or two weeks, the police will give up searching (if they even bothered to in the first place) and shove the child’s file in a fucking drawer somewhere, where it’ll never see the light of day again. But no, Maddie gets almost an entire planet’s exposure, with everyone looking out for her. Is that fair?
And what about her parents? What kind of assholes leave their children on their own IN AN UNLOCKED APARTMENT whilst they go and eat in a restaurant? Were your kids not hungry, too? Were they pissing you off so you decided to take a break for half an hour? Sure, the restaurant was 120 metres away, but given what had happened it could’ve been 120 miles away. Clearly it was “too far”, or perhaps it was so close that it just stinks of suspicion. Whatever your view on it, McCanns - you are fucking assholes in my book. OK, so in all fairness there were other factors to take into consideration. I won’t go into them here, but let me just assure you that nothing you can possibly show me or tell me about the situation will convince me otherwise. This is a classic example of parental negligence, and far as I’m concerned, the parents had it coming.
A friend of mine said the other day, even if they did keep checking on her every 30 minutes, you can be damn sure that if you’re out for a meal with friends and alcohol is involved, 30 minutes is NOT always 30 minutes. The more you drink, the longer the intervals will become. What are they going to say to the press? “Yeah, we checked it on her every 30 minutes up until about 11pm. Then I got wasted, and thought ‘Fuck it’ and we stopped checking. We figured nothing was gonna happen, and it kept interrupting our evening.”
The kid has been missing for 6+ months. I think it’s fair to say that as they haven’t received a ransom, or any kind of communication from the person who may or may not have kidnapped her, Madeline is in all probability dead. You may not like to read that, but it’s time to face facts. If you were a parent, and your child went missing, the Police would’ve been in touch months ago and told you the exact same thing. These are, statistically, the way things go. What the world really doesn’t need is this huge media delusion that the child might still be alive. The world needs to wake the fuck up. This isn’t a fairy-tale. This won’t have a happy ending. This is real life, and there are some extremely sick and disturbed people out there. Present author excluded.
Let me just state for the record now, that as much of an asshole that I am, I’m not a monster. I don’t wish any harm on the little girl. No child deserves to go through that, and we should live in a world where shit like that doesn’t happen. Unfortunately for all of us, things like this DO happen in our world. It’s up to us to take the relevant precautions to ensure that these things don’t happen to us personally. In my opinion, Maddies parents didn’t take even the most basic of precautions. They are the prime example of the content of at least 50% of our media - people who are in situations that could’ve been avoided had they treated them with caution.
This blog post isn’t about Madeline McCann as a person. This blog post is about the situation, and the media frenzy surrounding a single isolated incident of a little white blonde girl going missing/being kidnapped due to her parents stupidity. It’s about the unfairness of the media attention, and it’s my attempt to make you see that if it was YOUR child that went missing - you wouldn’t receive the same exposure. Us people in the real world have to deal with these things on our own, and with our immediate social circle. We don’t receive the “comfort” of millions of people worldwide, and we don’t have an entire planet willing to aid us in our time of need. When the shit hits the fan, and your friends and family have gone home or they hang up the phone - you’re on your own.

Not to be insulting, but you seem very young. I do see your point. Maybe things are a little screwed up with the media explosion. These parents were stupid. But who hasn’t made a mistake. No one’s perfect. I don’t condone what they did, neither do they, or any other normal human being. Who leaves their kids alone while they go out drinking? But even if you made a huge mistake and someone took your child, would you not try everything in your power to get her back. Madeline McCann has her face plastered everywhere because her parents are doing everything they can to get word out about her disappearance. Do you think all this is free? They’re putting blood sweat and tears, and probably every penny they own into this. If it were my child, i’d do everything in my power including selling my house and using every penny I had to make it known that we were still looking. You make half decent points about the case, but it seems careless, and heartless. Would you not want the same for your own child? The race card you’re claiming may be true, but it may not. I just know that i’d do everything I could for my child. Another thing, if you’ve looked at her pictures, she has a very distinct coloring in her right eye. which would help people to recognize her, its disctinctive, which could lead to less guess work. I understand where you’re coming from but try not to be so harsh. This is a family who has been troubled and for the rest of their lives will have to live without their child because they were irresponsible enough to drink instead of watch their children. No one should “have it coming to them” to lose a child.
How can you possibly judge my age based on that article? Because you assume that only someone who doesn’t have children could write so strongly and harshly about this subject? And if I don’t have children, you assume my age must be the determining factor in this? Your logic is seriously flawed. You know nothing about me, and your basis for comment is merely the point of view expressed in this article. Nobody would even attempt to determine age based on that, it’s nonsensical.
The McCanns can’t do anything to get their child back. It’s the police’s responsibility to investigate and follow leads, not theirs, they’re merely following the correct channels (ie the Police) and sitting on top of the media explosion with a prayer. If your child went missing the police would say the same thing to you - let them handle it. Being as emotionally involved as a parent, you could only get in the way and complicate things.
If you think the McCanns are paying for this publicity out of their own money, then you, sir, are seriously deluded. Newspapers don’t charge you to print stories - they do it because they’re the media. This isn’t some kind of press release advertising stunt. This is the publication of news - things that happen. Generally it’s the negative things that prove most popular - so I bet they’re loving this situation and selling a shitload of papers out of it. They’re getting paid (by the readers), don’t you worry.
The race card is true. You only need to look at how the Portugese are portrayed by the British media to see this.

If you did have children wouldn’t you do anything and everything you could to get them back, it is not her fault that this happened to her so why should people stop hoping and caring? People are donating money to help with the search, in hopes that it will bring her home. Why don’t you try praying for her safe return and that she is not being hurt. I agree with you totally on this. The whole Madeline thing is no longer a search but now a franchise with her parents and the media being the main benifactors. This search, and I use the word search loosely, is just another one of the medias many ways to satisfy the supply and demand model (plenty of stories about 9/11, but not many about the Americans bombing the shit out of innocent people in Iraq and other countries). And also this whole shit about the Diana crash. It’s time people stop feeding all this bullshit and stop reading The Sun (while I’m sure man people think it is a great paper, it’s really just a bunch of dicks faking journalism).

First of all, you are not an asswhole, or at least I don’t think you’re trying to be. As a person who lives in the real world, I totally hear you on what you are saying. When I first heard about her, I felt sad she had been abducted and then thought…why has this turned into a circus? Other than the obvious reasons, that it’s a blonde haired, blue-eyed white girl abducted from a rich British family vacationing in a foreign country? Serioiusly, why was it being handled so much differently than the thousands of other cases missing children cases?
The only thing I really don’t agree with is where you say they deserved to have her kidnapped. As annoying as the coverage they have on her is, and as wrong, unbelievably wrong and selfish the parents were to purposely leave their 3 children alone in a foreign country so they could eat and get hammered, that does not mean they deserved to have their daughter kidnapped and probably killed. Have social services intervene, yes, have their daughter kidnapped and not know what happened to her, not necessarily.
I love the comments people are making about making mistakes. It’s not a mistake, leaving your innocent, small unprotected child in a foreign country because you were too unbelievably selfish to watch your innocent fucking child is not a mistake, it’s just negligence, and a fucking apalling act of selfishness. And if anyone tries to justify these peoples act of selfishness as A MISTAKE, and FORGIVABLE, they are fucking retarded.
A mistake is forgetting to put on your pants, not purposely leaving your young child alone.
